Pearls and Tears

A Life Still Unfolding

I have lived a life woven with brilliance and sorrow — a tapestry of resilience, passion, and reinvention. Born in a quiet coastal town, I spent my childhood dreaming beyond the horizon, yearning for something past the waves that kissed the shore without ever quite reaching where I needed to go.

My twenties were a whirlwind. Crazy nights under golden chandeliers, love affairs that burned brightly before fading into embers, a career that took me across countries and left me with the particular kind of confidence that only comes from starting over in places where nobody knew who you were yet. I wore pearls to gala evenings where we spoke of art and literature. I wiped away tears in dimly lit cafés when dreams collided with reality and I had to decide which one to keep.

Loss carved deep lines into my soul — the kind that don’t go away but do, eventually, become part of the texture of who you are. I learned that sorrow and spirit are not in competition. You can carry both.

I rebuilt, time and time again. Each time from a different starting point, with different materials, toward a shape I couldn’t quite see until I was already building it. I found solace in the things that remain constant no matter how much else changes — sunrises over foreign cities, the specific warmth of newfound friendship, the quiet authority of a woman who knows she has survived harder things than whatever is in front of her right now.

✦   ✦   ✦

I have decades of life behind me. And yet an unwavering passion still burns — I refuse to claim that I have lived enough. There are still vast oceans to explore, stories to tell, love to discover in its many forms. The most extraordinary chapters have a way of arriving when you’ve stopped expecting them.

So I step forward. Pearls around my neck. Tears that have earned their place in the story. Still here. Still building. Still absolutely certain that this is not the end of anything worth talking about.

For the woman who has rebuilt herself more than once —
and would do it all again.
